But the third thing you can do — the one that tends to lead to the most interesting music, and to the best art in any medium and genre, is to take what appeals to you about the other work, see what about it you can get to work with your own style, and incorporate it. Cover your inspiration’s song, but do it in your own style and arrangement. Borrow that rhythm, but put your own melody line and lyrics over it. That’s the way most truly interesting creative artists work.
Dit was in een aflevering over Hank Williams (aanrader) en gaat natuurlijk over muziek. Maar wat er hier gezegd wordt, geldt voor creatief werk in het algemeen. Dit geldt ook voor bloggen.
Echt origineel werk bestaat niet. Iedereen staat op de schouders van giganten. De kunst is (letterlijk): geef er je eigen draai aan.
